Legendary Talk Show Host Jerry Springer Dies At 79

Jerry Springer, a longtime presenter of US talk shows, has passed away at the age of 79, according to US media, which also noted that his show was known for its on-air arguments, profanity, and adultery exposes.

According to a family representative quoted by TMZ, Springer passed away quietly at his Chicago home following ‘a brief illness’. His program, which went on to become an international sensation and ran for 27 years, ended its run there. No other information was provided by the representative.

Citing unnamed sources, TMZ said that Springer received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis a few months ago. When it first debuted in 1991, “The Jerry Springer Show” was just a regular chat program centered on social issues and US politics, hosted by the then-mild-mannered lawyer and former politician Springer, who for a brief period of time served as Cincinnati’s mayor in 1977.

However, after a few years, the son of Jewish German immigrants drastically changed things up, concentrating on salacious and outrageous content in an effort to increase ratings. In the majority of programs, guests appeared to discuss and reveal infidelity and other misdeeds as well as family issues.

Although it is said that Springer would attempt to mediate, fights frequently broke out and guests had to be restrained by security personnel. The program outperformed even Oprah in the US daytime television ratings in the late 1990s. Its run came to an end in 2018.
