During the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, Haider Ali from Pakistan secured a gold medal in the Discus Throw competition. With a throw of 51.23 meters on his fourth attempt, Haider claimed first place.
China’s Zhang Xuelong won the bronze with a throw of 48.26 meters, while Japan’s Yamato Shimbo took home the silver with a throw of 49.70 meters. After meeting the minimum entry criteria of 39 meters, the Pakistani athlete also secured his spot in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. It is important to mention that Haider had six throws today that exceeded 39 meters.

Moreover, he became the first-ever gold medalist for Pakistan in the Discus Throw event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. In addition to his achievements in the Discus Throw, Haider excelled in the Long Jump competition, earning silver and bronze in the 2008 and 2016 Paralympics, respectively. Haider is unquestionably Pakistan’s most successful para-athlete, having won a total of six medals at the Asian Para Games. His medals in the Javelin Throw, Discus Throw, 100m, and Long Jump events are among his accomplishments from the Asian Para Games.
