SIALKOT – Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan Sunday sparked a new controversy after venting her anger on Sialkot Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf after she found some rotten fruits in the Ramadan bazaar in her home town.
The viral footage on social media captured the short verbal spat between the public administrator and the ruling party leader. At the start of the clip, Awan can be seen scolding Sonia at a fruit stall after inspecting substandard fruits.
Expressing her anger, she told AC that it’s her duty to check every commodity in the makeshift bazaar since she gets paid for it. Reports in media cited other reasons for the ‘little fight’ between two as CM Punjab aide didn’t get the demanding protocol on her visit in hometown.
During the heated debate, the angry Awan asked ‘Where were you when I reached there?”. I couldn’t make it amid the rush,” the AC responded.
Are you not from masses? Is your life more precious than others as you got afraid to come forward, Awan told Sadaf. Adding that who is that Baghairat (shameless) person who posted you here? I will have a word with him, she shouted. The officer who earlier asked Awan to talk in a gentle way left the venue upon getting humiliated.
Earlier today, Punjab Chief Secretary Jawwad Malik conveyed reservations to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar about the special assistants misbehave.
The incident also draws public ire as many activists, politicians took to social media following the political drama. PM Imran Khan aide Usman Dar and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz shared tweets in support of Assistant Commissioner

PML-N leader in her tweet stood up for Sadad. Civil servants and bureaucrats get appointed to any administrative position after excelling in studies and passing competitive exams. Adding that any minister or the special assistant had no right to insult any administrative officer. Daughter of PMLN supremo also demanded Awan to tender an apology to AC Sonia Sadaf over misbehave.

Following the day-long drama, SAPM also holds a national presser for clarification after meeting with CM Buzdar. Justifying her shouting in public, the CM aide said the attitude by the AC was disappointing that provoked her to do so.
Adding that CM Buzdar had asked for a report to be submitted at the earliest. Awan also alleged some media correspondents who twisted the whole story and reported with biased facts.
