Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat to play Kamala’s great grandparents in Ms Marvel

Ms Marvel, the highly anticipated series centred on the first Pakistani-American Muslim superhero, is expected to premiere this year.

Kamala Khan, the adolescent, is played by Iman Vellani, and the show also features a number of well-known actors.

Fawad Khan and Mehwish Hayat, as well as actor Nimra Bucha, have been cast in key roles in Ms Marvel. While specifics of their impending roles have yet to be revealed, Fawad and Mehwish are rumoured to be playing Kamala Khan’s great grandparents.

Ms Marvel News, a Twitter account dedicated to the series, has begun tweeting about it. “Fawad Khan and Mehwish Hayat will be playing Hasan and Aisha, Kamala Khan’s great-grandparents, in a flashback scene in Ms Marvel,” according to the account.

“Her great grandparents only appear in four pages about the partition of India and Pakistan in the comics, so it’s probable this sequence will be about that, though we can’t confirm it yet,” they added.

The Humsafar star already announced his role in Ms Marvel after keeping the news under wraps for months. In an interview with Indian journalist Anupama Chopra, Khan said, “Fawad was questioned if he was a part of Ms Marvel in an interview with Film Companion. “I am,” says the narrator. Woh toh main deny nahi kar sakta, ab toh main jhooth nahi bol sakta, woh toh unhone khud news laga di hai” (I can’t deny that or lie about it because they have put out the news themselves).”

While Fawad did not divulge anything about his part, he talked about the experience of shooting for Ms Marvel. “It’s a wonderful experience, it was good fun. The cast that I worked with, the people that I worked with, it was good fun, but I am sorry, I cannot say anything more than that at this point in time,” he said.

In addition to Hayat, Saeed, and Khan, Pakistani actress Nimra Bucha will appear in the highly anticipated show.

Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azhar Usman, and Travina Springer are among the other cast members.

Farhan Akhtar’s name has also been linked to the project, but when asked to confirm the rumours, he gave a cryptic response. He told Eastern Eye, “Well, I’ve read it too, that’s all I can say.”

Ms Marvel will launch on Disney+ in the summer of 2022, as part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bisha K Ali is the show’s creator.
