Telenor Pakistan has debunked rumours that its services would be discontinued after a fraudulent notice claiming to be from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was circulated.
Telenor Pakistan, a subsidiary of the Norwegian Telenor Group, issued a statement expressing “deepest concern” over the incident in Kristiansand, Norway, on November 16, and condemning the destruction of the Quran.
Following the incident, a bogus notification claiming to be from the PTA began circulating, claiming that Telenor services would be discontinued across Pakistan on December 11.
“The company is devoted to the country and is proud to serve millions of Pakistanis,” the mobile network said in a press release, denying rumours of its shutdown.
According to the press release, “the corporation has expressed gratitude to its customers for ignoring such rumours and phoney communications.”
Meanwhile, the media’s bigwigs were caught up in the fake news tidal wave. This news was published by Daily Jahan Pakistan, Oosaf Roznama, and Duaonline news.
Meanwhile, the PTA distanced itself from the phoney notice and advised the public to check official sources such as the authority’s website or social media sites.
