Cable damage disrupts internet speed across Pakistan

According to Geo News, a cable cut in a submarine cable system over 400 kilometers off the coast of Pakistan is causing internet outages across the country.

TW1 is a 1,300-kilometer cable system that connects Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman.

According to a statement released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), a cut reported in the Trans World (TW1) submarine cable system could cause internet service disruption across Pakistan.

“A cable cut has been reported in the Trans World (TW1) submarine cable system at around 6 PM on Monday,” according to a PTA statement. “This fault has caused an outage of international bandwidth and may result in degradation of internet services for users of Transworld bandwidth.”

In a statement published in this regard, PTA indicated that it is arranging adhoc bandwidth to reduce the damage.

“To reduce the impact, the consortium is arranging adhoc bandwidth.” It said that “efforts are being made to determine the specific site of the problem and the projected restoration time.”

There were also complaints on social media about internet service disruptions and slowdowns.

Most of Nayatel’s service providers were affected across the country, and the company issued a notice to its clients warning them that they would experience poor internet connections. The issue has been present since Monday morning, according to the report.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited announced in December 2021 that it has “prepared for other channels for bandwidth” to compensate for a failure in an international submarine cable, following allegations of poor internet speeds across the country.

In October 2021, Internet customers in Pakistan were also affected after a submarine cable near Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, experienced a fault.
