Body of a Female Cricketer found Hanging From a Tree in India

A 26-year-old cricket player from Odisha was discovered Friday hanging from a tree in a deep forest in the Cuttack district, in a distressing development. On January 11, Rajashree Swain, a woman, was reported missing from her hotel room in Cuttack.

An official with the forest department Khirod Mallick saw the woman’s body hanging from a tree with a scarf around her neck and informed the police of the event, according to the Hindustan Times. After the police found her helmet and scooter abandoned in a woodland, the body wasn’t recovered until several hours later.

“In this case, a case of unnatural death has been reported. In the Gurudijhatia jungle in the Athagarh region, we discovered her body hanging from a tree. We’ll look into the death from every perspective “Pinak Mishra, deputy commissioner of police, told Press Trust of India.

After the post-mortem report is received, Mishra predicted that the cause of Swain’s death will be obvious. The Odisha Cricket Association’s selection camp last week included a cricket player from the Puri district among its 25 female participants. They were conducting trials for a spot on a 16-person team that would compete in a national tournament beginning on January 18 in Puducherry.

Swain, however, was not included in the final roster of athletes, which was unveiled on January 10. She then informed her coach Pushpanjali Banerjee that she would return to her home in the Puri district. The coach discovered that Swain didn’t return until late in the day and that her phone was no longer working, so she filed an FIR at the neighborhood police station.

After the names of the squad members were announced on Wednesday evening, Swain’s roommate observed her sobbing before she disappeared from the hotel where we had all stayed for the training session not long after.

Rajashree’s family claimed that she was murdered, even though the police believe it to be a case of suicide. According to her family, Swain, a middle-order batter and right-arm quick bowler, was murdered because “her eyes were injured and her body displayed injury scars.”

Additionally, they stated that Swain was passed over for a slot on the team despite performing better than many others who were chosen. CEO of the association Subrat Behera expressed astonishment over the cricketer’s passing and claimed the selection process was quite transparent. If there was discrimination, how is she included in the 25-person probable squad that attended the camp, Behera questioned.
