Carol Kirkwood, the BBC Breakfast weather presenter, announced her engagement live on air.
On Monday morning, during Kirkwood’s live hookup from the Chelsea Flower Show, the joyous news was conveyed to viewers. “This morning, I’m a little worried about you,” BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent stated in the studio. “I’m not sure how Carol manages to stand up with that huge rock on her left hand!”
Kirkwood replied, laughing, and showed out the ring, “Oh, that one!” Sal, I appreciate it. It’s quite nice – I’m engaged!”
“From all of us, congratulations,” Nugent said. “It’s wonderful news. We are completely overjoyed. Congratulations. “Can we confirm what occurred to the nation?”

“Yes!” Kirkwood exclaimed. “I believe you have, Sal!” I did get engaged. While on vacation, we got engaged. So it’s wonderful news, and we’re both ecstatic. So, thanks!”
“We’re all ecstatic,” remarked co-host Jon Kay. “Everyone is delighted for you, Carol.” I’m confident I speak for the entire team here and everyone watching. Absolutely happy.”
Kirkwood told the hosts that no date had been fixed, but she was looking for inspiration from the flowers on exhibit at Chelsea.
“I have just been reading over all your nice tweets,” Kirkwood later said on Twitter. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. I’m deeply touched… and ecstatic!!”

Kirkwood said in a June interview with Prima Magazine:
“I don’t want to reveal too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is extremely nice and humorous, and he never fails to make me laugh. And he’s incredibly attractive. He makes me a cup of tea every morning before I go to work, which is extremely romantic – it’s 2.45 a.m., and he frequently leaves me a small love note for when I get home from work. That is worth a million red roses to me. Without a question, he is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
