Customers of United Bank Limited after receiving fraudulent notifications of bank transfers, bill payments, and online purchases, are being told to change all their passwords suspecting a data leak event that might have jeopardized sensitive information of millions of account holders of the bank.
Apparently, a large number of customers of one of Pakistan’s largest banks have complained that they have lost money in the last few days due to a technical problem with the bank’s services.
Experts believe that activities on such a big scale can only be a massive data breach.
Others ways include debit card hacking, which is done by hijacking ATM machines. When debit cards are entered into the machine, the information on them is replicated. The card’s key pins are also taken using key loggers, and the cards are then utilised on the internet.
But numerous accounts being affected and almost in the same time frame would be more data loss than debit card hacking.
