13 arrested in connection with unattended dead body at a wedding lunch

According to police, 13 people were arrested on Tuesday in Punjab for the alleged murder of a papad (rice cracker) vendor at a wedding in Pattoki.

According to the incident’s first information report (FIR), Mohammad Ashraf, a rice cracker vendor, got into a fight with attendees at a wedding procession in Pattoki, and was then beaten up and dragged inside the wedding hall.

The event gained attention as video purportedly showing Ashraf’s body near an apparently apathetic audience dining at the wedding went viral on social media, inciting widespread outrage at the callousness on display.

Asif Hanif, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Pattoki, described the occurrence as “extremely terrible.” When the DSP learned about the occurrence, he created teams and 13 individuals were arrested and interviewed, according to the DSP.

The crime was reported to Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan, who ordered Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Sohaib Ashraf to arrest the perpetrators right away.

Last night, police stormed Kanganpur, Pattoki, and Sarai Mughal, arresting 12 individuals, according to the DPO. He claimed that doctors had not proven torture in the deceased’s original post-mortem report, and that the police were looking into every element of the case.

The Punjab Forensic Science Agency had collected evidence from the scene, according to DPO Ashraf, and the “actual facts” will be revealed after the final report.

Osama Mehmood, a Punjab police spokesman, said the incident was reported to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and the IGP late at night. He went on to say that the DPO was leading the investigation and that the needs of justice would be met by examining CCTV video and other evidence to identify the suspects.

CM Buzdar requested a report from the IGP and stated that the perpetrators should be captured as soon as possible. “The suspects are not entitled to any leniency. The family of the deceased should be treated fairly “he stated
