ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, the world’s fifth-most populous country with an estimated population of 225 million, topped the 2021 list of most affordable countries to live in.
Reports in local media quoting the cost of living index by GoBankingRates said the South Asian country has overtaken India, Afghanistan, and Syria in the recent index.
The index of the of US-based personal finance resource Management Company also mentioned the stability in prices of daily commodities – making living the most affordable and cheapest across the globe.
The country of the world’s second-largest Muslim population topped the list with a score of 18.58 while Afghanistan, India, and Syria got marked with 24.51, 25.41, and 25.31 respectively.
GoBankingRates, much like other companies, used four metrics to chalk out the index including rent index, local purchasing power index, consumer price index, along groceries index.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib also took to his official handle where he shared the report of World Population Review which termed Pakistan as the ‘cheapest country’ in terms of living expenses. The Minister of State said the cost of living index in Uzbekistan is 25.79, Nepal 30.69, Nigeria 31.75, Vietnam 38.17, Malaysia 39.46, and Brazil 42.64, he added.

The PTI leader also shared said the most expensive countries in the world in terms of cost of living include Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Switzerland, and Norway.
