Inducted on fake letter as ASI, man fooling Sindh Police for 32 years gets caught posted as SP

KARACHI: Apparently it seems like a movie plot but it’s real as the appointment of a senior police official in the Sindh province has turned out to be a dud.

The unexampled incident has surfaced after a Superintendent of Police (SP), Aijaz Tareen, fooled the police department for more than 3 decades. The whole matter disclosed during the examination of his credentials which undertook in course of audit launched by the authorities.

Tareen started the journey as an Assistant sub-inspector, in the year 1989 in the federal capital, by using a fake appointment letter and surprisingly promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) and got transferred to Sindh in the year 1997.

Later, the process was revealed as a sham as no such appointment had been made in the federal capital. During the career of 32 long years, the phony cop served at various police stations and hold sensitive posts besides meeting with top provincial leadership. He was also spotted with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The fake SP then has terminated from the department on court orders. Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mahar directed the authorities to recover the weapon and other equipment from his possession. However, further legal proceedings against the fake officer are yet unknown.

Earlier, it was revealed that at least 1,200 fake personnel have been appointed in the Sindh police department.
