Australia trying to squeeze cricket in Olympics 2032

As part of a strategic plan to increase participation and preserve the game’s position at the center of the nation’s sporting culture, Cricket Australia has its sights set on having the game at the Olympics in Brisbane in 2032.

In the next five years, the ambitious ‘Where the Game Grows’ strategy hopes to double the number of kids aged five to 12 who play the game to 210,000, with girls making up 60,000 of that total. If it hasn’t already been done at the Los Angeles Summer Games in 2028, one of the objectives is to reinstate cricket in the Olympic Games for the first time since 1900.

Eight more sports, including cricket, have been selected as potential additions to the 2028 Olympic Games. The ICC will deliver to the organizers at a later date this month. Last month, women’s T20 cricket made its debut at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, with Australia defeating India in the championship match by nine runs to win the first-ever gold medal.

In order to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2032 Games, Brisbane intends to transform the city’s Gabba cricket stadium into a 50,000-seat Olympic Stadium. The inclusion of cricket in the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is part of the strategy’s ‘sustainable future’ component, which also aims to improve the fan experience, expand the grassroots, and keep Australia competitive internationally. Over the next five years, Cricket Australia wants to see both the men’s and women’s national sides win at least three ICC events. CA CEO Nick Hockley stated that this strategy offers both a vision and a clear roadmap for how we can achieve ambitious, transformative change while also achieving our basic duties.

Brisbane 2032 Olympic organizers celebrated in July 2022 to mark 10 years till the start of their Games, which not many other former host cities had the chance to do.

The International Olympic Committee approved an earlier decision from its Executive Board and awarded the 2032 Games to the capital of Queensland State and the city on Australia’s east coast. The Brisbane Games are slated to take place in Brisbane, coastal areas in the Gold Coast’s south and the Sunshine Coast’s north from July 23 to August 8, 2032.

Although the Brisbane organizing committee now only has a small number of employees, they intend to appoint a full-time chief executive officer by the end of the year. There are now 22 competition locations, with proposals for six new venues and eight renovated facilities. The Summer Olympics were last held in Australia in Sydney in 2000, and Melbourne in 1956 served as the country’s first and only previous Olympic host city.
