Werewolf in Pakistan?

LAHORE: A viral clip of a ‘werewolf’, who can be seen lying down with blood on body parts while panting, is taking social media in Pakistan by storm.

The short clip is being shared widely on social media platforms other than WhatsApp private groups with different stories attributed to it.

Despite the terror and shock caused by the graphic images and videos with terrifying sound of heavy breathing, the story behind the skeptical video has started to unfold.

Since this week, the disturbing visuals has left social media users divided as the audio clip posted with the story of ‘werewolf’ contrasted the background, some users speaking in native languages claimed that Pakistan the werewolf hunted by Pakistan Rangers in the vicinity of Sialkot [a city in Punjab] contrary to others which claimed it to be in forests of Swat[a district in the Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa].

As the story further developed it was later said that the werewolf-like creature was seen in the district of Baluchistan, Khuzdar. It was widely rumored that the Assistant Commissioner of Khuzdar had confirmed the news. Following the confirmation a couple of journalists had also claimed that they had interviewed the locals who actually battened this creature to death.

Despite dozens of versions that circulated on microblogging and messaging platforms, othernews.pk cleared the air as it became known that the clip attributed with the South Asian country is nothing but a dud.

From the media correspondents who claimed to have exact detail of the incident to the hoax that was shared dozens of time on social platforms, the so-called mysterious creature is just another phony tale created by locals in a bid to create panic among the people who are not fully aware of the use of social media and can easily be duped with any forwarded content.

Like much other fake news in the South Asian country, othernews.pk has debunked the hoax. The hunted wolf which is said to be a living creature is actually a silicone mold art of legendary Joseph-Rob Cobasky who is a popular makeup and special effects artist. Cobasky who is known for his bizarre yet fascinating artworks created this piece for some horror movies.
