World’s fastest passenger aircraft goes supersonic in testing

There was a flurry of excitement when aircraft maker Bombardier confirmed the launch of a new commercial jet and unveiled high-speed results.

According to a Bombardier statement, it can accommodate 19 passengers, has a range of 8,000 nautical miles, a high-speed Mach 0.94, and it is expected to enter service in 2025.

The news came after the Global 7500 test vehicle broke the sound barrier during a demonstration flight and reached a speed of over 1.015. According to Bombardier, the aircraft, along with NASA’s F / A-18 chase, also became the first transport category aircraft to fly at supersonic speeds on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as a result of its flight.

In a statement, Bombardier President and Chief Executive Officer Éric Martel said, “The Global 8000 aircraft leverages the outstanding attributes of the Global 7500 aircraft, providing our customers with a flagship aircraft of a new era.”
