UAE-Based Pakistani Mechanic Becomes Millionaire Overnight, Promises help to Flood Victims

The floods, which were brought on by unusual monsoon rains and glacial melt, have submerged vast swathes of the South Asian nation since mid-June and killed over 1,700 people, the majority of whom were women and children.

A Pakistani mechanic living in Abu Dhabi recently won 10 million dirhams ($2.7 million) in a lucky draw, and he told Arab News he would use some of it to aid the victims. Over 33 million people were forced to leave their homes as a result of the destruction, which affected 15% of the nation’s population and submerged a third of the land. 32-year-old Saad Sultan, from Abbottabad in northeastern Pakistan, relocated to the Gulf nine years ago to work there and has been regularly taking part in Mahzooz, a weekly live draw in the UAE.

He had the good fortune to become its 29th millionaire earlier this month. Sultan made 2,000 dirhams a month as a machine mechanic and operator in an aluminum factory, which he used to support his family back home. He now wants to affect the lives of others because the Mahzooz triumph has profoundly altered his own. He said to Arab News that he didn’t have money to donate previously to flood victims. He did not believe his luck at first, but now he said that he wants to make a difference in their lives. When he signed into his Mahzooz account to watch the draw, he recalled how he had gone for a nighttime drive with his cousin.

He admitted he didn’t believe it at first. He then requested his cousin to pull over to the side. They rejoiced and gave thanks to God. Pakistanis other than Sultan have also received cash prizes.

Junaid Rana, a 36-year-old driver from Dubai, earned the largest sum ever in the lucky draw in October of last year. Farid Samji, the main office of EWINGS, which runs Mahzooz, hailed Sultan’s victory by saying, the highest-ever award in the Middle East of 50 million dirhams was also won by a Pakistani, Junaid, who was a driver. They are thrilled to see that Pakistan has produced again another deserving top prize winner.
