Traffic violation can lead up to suspension of driver’s license in Lahore (VIDEO)

LAHORE – Traffic violation in the country’s cultural capital can lead to suspension of driving privileges, Chief Traffic Officer warned Wednesday.

Traffic laws are designed to minimize offenses and protect the general public from fatal accidents and in a similar bid to discourage violations in the city, the Lahore traffic police have decided to suspend the driving licenses of the violators.

Local media citing the city’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muntanzar Mehdi said that offenders violating one-way traffic rules will face strict action in the provincial metropolis.

Mehdi termed the violation of one-way as a ‘suicide,’ adding that the city’s traffic officials have decided to increase the deployment of traffic wardens to strictly implement the laws.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has also raised the fines imposed on traffic violations. The fine for riding a two-wheeler without a helmet has been increased to Rs600 besides an unusual hike for speeding, wrong parking, and one-way violation.

Underage riders will be slapped with Rs500 fine while invalid driving licenses will get a penalty of Rs600. In wake of increased traffic accidents due to mobile phone usage, the fine has been increased to Rs750.

In another similar development, traffic police in the Punjab capital have finally seized a white saloon car that was involved in whopping 90 traffic violations.

Reports in local media cited that the traffic authority fined the owner up to over Rs44,000 over numerous traffic offenses. The driver of the sedan car violated the traffic light 41 times and was charged with over-speeding up to 45 times. The culprit also violated the traffic regulations against one-way traffic once, as well as line lane and zebra crossing thrice.
