Reports in international media cited that a massive crowd thronged the royal wedding while social distancing and other Covid related protocols went for a toss. Only a few people were spotted wearing face masks in the festivity.

A number of private jets landed at the Aminu Kano International airport for the wedding ceremony of the President’s son.

The big fat event, which took place at the palace of the Emir of Bichi, witnessed the presence of a number of ministers, traditional rulers, captains of industries, politicians as well as members of the diplomatic community. Buhari’s predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, the Gambia’s first lady, Matawalle (Zamfara), Babagana Zulum (Borno), former Zamfara governor, Ahmed Yarima, Minister of Communication, Isa Pantami, Borno senator, Ali Ndume, former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu and former Aviation Minister, and the former president of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufu, were among the eminent guests.

The security arrangements were beefed up as a large number of security personnel escorted the guests to the palace in nearby 50 planes.

The wedding was conducted by Communications Minister Isa Ali Pantami, who is also a qualified imam. The groom’s family paid 500,000 Naira as dowry- 10 times higher than the average amount in the regions. The wedding Fatiha was held at Bichi Central Mosque after the congregational prayer on Friday.

To make the event memorable, President had earlier put together a 145-member committee for the celebration. Some reports said the guest list was scaled down in wake of the Covid pandemic. The Presidency constituted a presidential delegation ahead of Buhari’s visit to Kano for the marriage of his son.

Meanwhile, the pre-wedding pictures of the young bride stirred controversy due to a revealing dress. A number of far-right-wing members slammed her for ‘immoral’ clothing.
