‘Sindh domicile not a prerequisite for admissions to colleges’

In past, there was a time when it was considered compulsory for students willing to take admission to colleges after matriculation to have a Domicile certificate, validating their proof and place of birth.

But even then, it was considered a useless activity as one’s father’s identity card or B-form can also serve the purpose the same way like Domicile do.

To facilitate students, the director general of Sindh colleges, Rashid Ahmed Mahar, has announced that students are no longer required to submit domicile certificates while getting admissions to colleges.

He said that the students can begin the admission process by giving their B-form or a copy of their fathers’ computerized national identity cards but still they have to submit domicile certificates at the time of enrolment.

Nearly 150 public colleges in Karachi are giving admissions for the intermediate classes but the point of concern is that the success rate in the matriculation exams was over 95 per cent. Hence, the colleges are receiving more admissions than their total capacity.

Mahar added that his office has decided to facilitate students with E grade at colleges where the admission rate was low. Currently, nearly 67 colleges are giving admissions to students who have passed their exams with E grade.

He informed that in 2020, the public sector colleges gave admissions to over 80,000 students but this year the total number of admissions had surpassed the figure of a hundred thousand.
