Sidhu to work as clerk for Rs.30-90 per day in prison

Navjot Singh Sidhu, former Punjab Congress chief who was recently sentenced to a year in prison, will work as a clerk in the Patiala Central Jail, where he will serve his term.

Sidhu, who has been assigned to barrack number 7, will work from his cell and will not go out for work due to security concerns, according to jail officials. The documents will be delivered to his barrack.

The inmates are not paid for the first three months of training. After being classed as unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled prisoners, they are entitled to Rs 30-90 per day.

Wages will be directly deposited into his bank account. Convicted criminals are allowed to work for up to eight hours every day, and the government pays their fines.

According to jail officials, Mr Sidhu, who is 58 years old, will be trained on how to summarise lengthy court judgements and collect detention records.

On Monday morning, the cricketer-turned-politician was brought under heavy security to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for a medical test.

Navjot Sidhu’s lawyer, HPS Verma, claimed Navjot Sidhu has requested a specific diet while incarcerated.

At the hospital, he said, a board of doctors will conduct a thorough medical check. Navjot Sidhu, according to his lawyer, is unable to consume wheat, sugar, ‘maida,’ and several other foods.

Mr Verma stated, “He can have berries, papaya, guava, double-toned milk, and foods that are low in fiber and carbs.”

On Tuesday, the court authorised a seven-meal diet chart recommended by a team of specialists.
