Sheikh Mohammed Approves Plans for Dubai’s Flying Taxi Stations

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, arrived together at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) to approve the models of aerial taxi vertiports.

At the 2023 World Government Summit, the models were on show at RTA’s booth. His Highness received a briefing on prospective collaborators that the RTA had found to operate and fund the infrastructure needed to realize the aerial taxi project.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, minister of cabinet affairs and chairman of the World Government Summit (WGS) Organization, and Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, minister of state for artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and remote work applications and managing director of the World Government Summit were in attendance with Sheikh Mohammed.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, also provided Sheikh Mohammed with an update on the project’s most recent developments regarding aerial taxi operations. The project’s goal is to implement a brand-new mobility service that is powered by cutting-edge technology and connected with Dubai’s public transportation system to make it easier for people to move around urban regions in a safe, efficient, and sustainable way. By 2026, the service is anticipated to be in use.

“Determining the locations for vertiport installations and selecting manufacturers and operators based on their technology and timeframe are both included in the first step. According to Al Tayer, the initial vertiport network will link Dubai’s four key areas: Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa region), Dubai Marina, Dubai International Airport, and Palm Jumeirah. “Vertiports represent a cutting-edge kind of infrastructure that includes a variety of services like specific take-off and landing zones, a waiting room for passengers, security procedures, and electric charging stations. These stations connect with different types of transportation without any problems. Finding excellent investors with knowledge of creating the required infrastructure for the air mobility business is the next step, he continued.
