At the Filmfare Awards in Dubai, Sheheryar Munawar Siddiqui was seen on a widely circulated video brushing Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s foot.
The Parey Hut Love star was interviewed by The Talk Talk Show host Hasan Choudary regarding his gesture toward the performer from the other side of the border in the middle of sociopolitical unrest and the ensuing criticism.
Choudary compared the incident to another time when Fahad Mustafa touched Govinda’s foot at a different function. Sheheryar said with a chuckle, “What can I say – there’s a video, you must have seen it. It can be unfair when an event intended for your private life isn’t appropriate for public consumption. On stage, I was doing nothing. I was off-duty.
We were making light conversation and jokes at the time. Because Mahira jee, IÂ and Nawazuddin sahab were present, it was a joke. We were having a friendly conversation among ourselves when I admitted that I was a tremendous fan, which is true. Since the premiere of his movie Gangs of Wasseypur, I have been. Sheheryar continued, “Mahira was pulling my leg, saying that I should touch guru jee’s feet, and I answered, “Fine – what’s the big deal, I’ll do it. At that time, a makeup artist snapped that portion – which was extremely wrong of him to do – and left off everything else, such as when you and I interact with others and say, “Oh, sir!” When that kind of moment happened, it was recorded, edited, and spread.
The Ho Mann Jahaan star is also a Sindhi, added Hasan, and it’s a practice that’s been around for quite some time. Sheheryar continued, “As for the second portion, I was going to say that if that were the case, I wouldn’t be ashamed of it since I’m Sindhi and we show respect to people from whom we learn. This is what I believe to be my incredibly old culture. That is perfectly OK. Next, the two make light of the actor’s removal of a photo of him with Deepika Padukone, which he merely explained was due to his “wrong angle.”
