Secret Letter Written By Queen Elizabeth II to Be Opened in 2085

The late Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom wrote a confidential letter to Australia that won’t be revealed for 63 years.

The letter, which was written by her in November 1986, is locked up in a vault in a historic building in Sydney, according to local news reports in Australia. The letter’s intended readership was the people of Sydney. The letter is supposed to be hidden inside a glass case in a secure area, meaning that nobody, not even the Queen’s personal staff is aware of what is written inside. The letter is sealed and can’t be opened until 2085, according to the instructions.

The letter is signed “Elizabeth R.” and is addressed to the Lord Mayor of Sydney. 16 state visits by Queen Elizabeth II to Australia. Her Majesty made 16 trips there, the first of which took place in 1954, barely two years after she assumed the position. The Queen, who served as a constitutional monarch and whose son will succeed her as King, did not participate in the day-to-day operations of the Australian Government. She did, however, carry out crucial ceremonial and symbolic responsibilities.

However, the Queen’s death and the King’s coronation bring attention to Australia’s ongoing republicanism. Australians voted to keep the Queen as their head of state in a failed referendum in 1999. Australia is a nation of “Elizabethans,” according to then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, who remarked to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Australian Republic Movement.
