Saudi Arabia deploys first batch of women security guards at Grand Mosque

RIYADH– For the first time in history of Saudi Arabia, female security personnel have been deployed in Masjid Al Haram.

Royal authorities follow Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 initiative which introduces reforms that allow Saudi women to advance in various fields including Armed forces.

Pictures posted on official handle of Saudi Interior Ministry shows female security officers on duty for the first time at the Grand Mosque. ‘From the field, the security guard of Hajj and Umrah’, the caption reads.

The female guards stood smart with confidence as they donned in black facemasks that also matched the colour of their hijabs. They were on duty at the Grand Mosque regulating the presence of pilgrims. The positioned personnel also ensuring that all Covid-19 SOPs are followed.

The pictures which depict Kingdom are doing rounds on social media as many hailed the portrayal of women empowerment while other opposed following conservative school of thought.

Let it be known that the Saudi Ministry of Defence in February allowed men and women to get recruited in military. Women can now serve as soldiers, lance corporals, corporals, sergeants, and staff sergeants in Saudi armed forces.

Last year in December, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques also appointed around 1,500 females. They were appointed in different departments to serve female visitors to the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
