Saidpur Village on High Alert after Three leopards spotted in Margalla hills

Three leopards invaded the region of the Margalla hills in Islamabad on Thursday night, prompting the Islamabad Capital Police to send a contingent to Saidpur village.

According to the information available, the three leopards invaded the area while the residents of Saidpur Village fled in terror. The Wildlife Management Board cautioned the villagers to minimize their activities as notices were sent from the neighboring mosques.

According to wildlife specialists, leopards rarely attack people, although they occasionally do it out of wrath when they see a lot of people. The local government has encouraged the residents to maintain calm, and in the interim, a part of the Islamabad Capital Police has been stationed in the region. The Capital Police advised, “Call 15 in case of any emergency.” Tuesday in Azad Jammu and Kashmir saw the killing of a second leopard, according to Rina S. Khan Satti, chair of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).

In a series of tweets, she claimed that a mob of 200 locals murdered the wild cat in Hattian Bala in the Jhelum Valley. It is heartbreaking to report that locals in Azad Kashmir have once again slaughtered a common leopard. The chairwoman stated that a group of 200 people attacked a leopard that approached a community and cruelly killed the animal. The Asian leopard is typically spotted in the daytime in the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP), but it doesn’t generally represent a threat to people. In the afternoon, the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) recently photographed a male leopard roaming around the leopard preserve area.

The IWMB chairperson clarified that the movement was inside the protected area and that anyone entering the national park was not in danger. When contacted, Prof. Dr. Zahid Baig Mirza, a senior member of the IWMB and a seasoned naturalist and ornithologist, predicted that the impending cool weather would prompt male leopards to seek to penetrate a female territory while fully aware of the female’s tolerance.

Dr. Mirza noted that the female leopard does not permit any males to access her territory during the non-breeding season, although weather changes may force male leopards to wander even during the day. Only when her reproductive hormones prompt her to do so does she allow a powerful male to enter her domain.

He stated that mature females cannot penetrate one another’s territories. According to Safwan Ahmed, vice president of the Pakistan Wildlife Foundation, both Asian and African leopards’ nocturnal habits are becoming scientifically irrelevant. He noted that the activity of the animal during the day was not unusual and that if a leopard is resting in a tree and notices any deer or prey passing below, it will descend and follow its prey whether it is morning or evening. Mr. Ahmed claimed that experts were pleased with the fact that male leopards captured on camera were muscular.
