Cristiano Ronaldo, the star player from Portugal, had to take the brunt of the anger of the fans when his new team Al Nassr lost 3-1 to rivals Al Ittihad, sending them out of the Saudi Super Cup.
Fans brutally ridiculed the top player on social media for failing to win a pivotal game for his team, flooding the platform with messages and memes.
Al Nassr supporters aggressively chanted “Messi, Messi” at Ronaldo. On Twitter, someone wrote, “He can’t pass, dribble, score, or even dribble; all he can do is siuuu, I’m exhausted. Another fan wrote, “The Goat debate fell off since Ronaldo lost a game in Saudi Arabia while Messi was on a field trip.”
A supporter remarked, “Ronaldo effect, Al Nassr is losing after a 14-game winning streak. In addition, a rival player imitated Lionel Messi’s well-known goal celebration while the Argentinean was a player for Barcelona to make fun of the striker after the latter scored a goal. According to a report in the Mirror, Moroccan forward Abderrazak Hamdallah, who extended his team’s advantage against Al Nassr, imitated Messi by raising his shirt after he scored the game-winning goal in an earlier El Clasico match.
The Portuguese team’s captain played in this game for the second time, and just like in countless other games, he was just inches from scoring an easy goal. Anderson Talisca scored the lone goal as Ronaldo made his professional debut on Sunday against Al Ittifaq, helping his team to a 1-0 victory.
Ronaldo’s clear-cut miss, which contributed significantly to the Al Nassr team’s elimination from the tournament, reportedly drew Rudi Garcia’s disappointment and criticism from the manager. Cristiano’s missed opportunity in the first half, according to Garcia, “was one of the elements that affected the direction of the game.”
