LAHORE: Punjab government, in a bid to stern the third wave of Covid-19, on Saturday directed to jail people for up to six months if they deliberately violate Covid-19 restrictions.
Commissioner Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman announced severe actions including jail terms to implement the face mask rule.
Speaking with the press reporters, Usman mentioned that provincial law enforcers have been directed to book violators, adding that such people will also be put behind the bars. This new rule will go into effect starting today (Saturday).
Officials and cops will routinely patrol and take strict action against being unmasked at public places, he further added.
As for Saturday, the positivity ratio in Punjab capital reported having shot up by an alarming rate. At least 1,233 people tested positive for the deadly virus while the city’s positivity ratio recorded at 18 percent.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s top monitoring body Chief Asad Umar also warned of serious restrictions if the Covid-19 situation doesn’t improve.
Umar added that the number of critical patients has speedily spiked in the last two weeks and if the situation deteriorates, the situation will slip out of hand and will affect the employment of people.
