Platinum Jubilee: Queen Elizabeth’s young hologram waves to crowds from Gold State Coach

Queen Elizabeth II appeared as a young hologram waving to the spectators from the Gold State Coach during the London street pageant as Britain celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The 260-year-old carriage, which was used to take the Queen from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for her coronation in 1953, also featured historical film of the Queen.

The iconic Gold State Coach had not been seen on the streets of London in almost two decades, so it was a rare occasion.

The 96-year-old monarch, who has been plagued by mobility issues, was unable to attend the festivities in person. Instead, holograms of the monarch showed up on the carriage’s windows, creating the appearance that she was inside, waving to the huge crowds lining the streets.

According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the Gold State Coach is the "iconic figurehead" of the Platinum Paegant, and its opulent appearance belies its historic significance. According to the Telegraph, the technology was created by London-based Treatment Studio, which has previously worked on special effects for Adele and Sir Elton John.

Inside the coach, the studio mounted digital screens with holograms of the young Queen on a custom-made steel framework.

The monarch said she was “humbled and sincerely affected” by the turnout for her Platinum Jubilee festivities and “inspired by the generosity, joy, and kinship that has been so visible in recent days” in a statement released immediately after.

“While I may not have been able to attend every event in person, my heart has been with you all,” she continued, “and I am committed to serving you to the best of my ability, backed by my family.”
