From only singing hit covers in 2007 to Pakistan’s First Grammy Award Winner in 2022- Meet Arooj Aftab

The New York-based singer is gaining worldwide attention for her work, combining ancient Sufi traditions with folk, jazz, and minimalism.

Pakistani singer Urooj Aftab has scored her first Grammy by winning a prestigious trophy for her song Love in the Best Global Performance category.

She has lived in New York for almost 15 years and is constantly gaining international attention for her work, which combines ancient Sufi traditions with folk, jazz, and minimalist implications. He is also set to receive the prestigious Best New Artist Award, which will be presented later on Sunday during the main Grammy telecast.

Born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, Aftab spent his teenage years in Lahore before moving to Boston’s famous Berkeley School of Music to study music preparation and engineering.

It released its third studio album, Vulture Prince, for critical acclaim, and gained even more traction after former US President Barack Obama added Track Love to its 2021 Summer Favorites list.

Aftab has performed at several major venues in New York, including the Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art.
