The Indian government has mandated the immediate prohibition of the Pakistani internet series Sevak: The Confessions, according to Hindustan Times.
Furthermore, it was instructed to block Vidly TV, an over-the-top streaming service, for airing the web series that allegedly propagated anti-Indian propaganda. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) noted that the web series that was broadcast on the OTT Platform was found to be harmful to India’s defense, security, and friendly relations with other countries, as well as to India’s sovereignty, integrity, and national security, according to the order.
The ministry supported its denial with several elements from the web series. They asserted that the online series portrayed a negative narrative about India regarding sensitive historical events and matters that are significant to the nation. The destruction of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya and its aftermath, the murder of Graham Staines, the explosions at Malegaon and Samjhauta Express, the interstate river water dispute over the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal, etc. are a few examples.
Furthermore, the center claims that Operation Blue Star was portrayed as a “massacre” of “innocent Sikhs.” The ruling went on to claim that the details of Operation Blue Star in Punjab were deliberately painted with strongly sectarian overtones, implying that the rioting and police action was motivated by religious concerns. The ministry claims that all Punjabi police officers are depicted without turbans, sending the notion that non-Sikh police officers have classified Sikhs as Khalistani terrorists. The ministry said that certain episodes of the show presented an incorrect depiction of historical events.
The instruction persisted, portraying the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 as a Hindu assault on Sikhs using pious symbols. Mohsin Abbas, Hajra Yamin, Nazarul Hassan, Nayyer Ejaz, and Adnan Jaffar are among the actors who play characters in the online series. Renowned filmmaker Anjum Shahzad and well-known screenwriter Saji Gul created the series.
