Pakistani entrepreneur wins Amal Clooney’s Women’s Empowerment Award

Tanzila Khan, a local disability rights activist and entrepreneur, earned the first-ever Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award at the Prince’s Trust Awards 2022, bringing pride to Pakistanis around the world.

The Princes Trust is a charitable organisation formed by Charles, Prince of Wales, and the Awards’ goal is to provide financial support and enable young people to pursue their dream career.

Tanzila, who was born in Sialkot and was unable to walk and was confined to a wheelchair, had numerous challenges in the years ahead.

Tanzila, on the other hand, has worked tirelessly to expand the world of options for young females and differently-abled individuals throughout Pakistan in order to define and change the narrative.

Tanzila’s long list of accomplishments began when she was 16 years old and published her first book, A Story of Mexico.

According to her website, the author’s talent for writing inspired her to self-publish and sell her books in order to fund her community projects aimed at women’s empowerment and the inclusion of differently-abled individuals. Her entrepreneurial venture, GirlyThingsPk, was born out of her desire to be more inclusive.

Due to the lack of equitable services supplied in stores, a mobile application that caters to breaking down obstacles experienced by differently-abled menstruators allows them to obtain their hygiene kits online.

In 2021, the activist made headlines with her travel to Egypt with Zargoona Wadood and Afshan Afridi, a solo tour by three women in wheelchairs to demonstrate a new face of disability.

Tanzila’s efforts have been recognised by the international community, and her empowering programmes have made headlines, providing support and establishing inclusive spaces for people with disabilities and young girls, earning her the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award this year.
