Pakistan opens Covid vaccine jabs for age 30 and above from today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has started inoculating people above 30 years of age as the country aims to vaccinate the maximum population amid the national vaccination drive.

Pakistan nerve center on the novel virus, National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), in a meeting decided to extend the Covid jabs to younger ones. NCOC Chief and federal minister also shared the development on his official handle.

The development comes almost a week after the country’s top health officials had started registering people who are 30 years and above. According to an unofficial report, at least 22 million people fell in the age bracket of 30 to 40 years.

To get the jab, citizens could register themselves by sending their CNIC numbers to the national covid helpline 1166. Meanwhile, walk-in vaccinations have been opened for citizens above 40 years.

Federal Minister and PTI leader Asad Umar, in another tweet of the series, wrote that Pakistan started vaccinated all adults as the recent import of Covid doses from all-weather friend China and Covax has made sufficient availability of doses.

‘As vaccine supply continues to improve and vaccination capacity gets enhanced in all federating units, we continue to expand the categories of those who are eligible to get vaccinated’ the tweet of NCOC Chief reads.

Meanwhile, all citizens 18 years and above, who are planning to travel to foreign countries, can now get inoculated, according to the latest notification from NCOC.

The move comes as many of the European and western countries have made Covid jab a prerequisite for the visa process in wake of multiple variants around the globe.

As of Friday, May 21, a total of 4,956,853 Covid-19 vaccines had been administered in Pakistan so far while more than 200,000 vaccines had been administered in a single day (today).
