In a panel discussion at the Health Services Academy (HSA) in Islamabad, Tariq Malik, Chairman of NADRA, proposed the creation of a “National Sex Offenders Registry” to track child molesters.
The “Bakhabar Noujawan” consultative meeting was organized by the National Committee for Maternal and Neonatal Health (MCMNH) in cooperation with the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHS, R&C), AMAN, and HSA. This will make it possible for individuals and businesses to find out whether a candidate they are thinking about hiring has ever committed any sexual offenses.
Malik also argued for requiring couples to take a reproductive health course prior to getting hitched because doing so can help with family planning, enhance children’s health, and prevent underage marriages. Malik stated that if the government adopts it through legislation, he is willing to add Thalassemia to the NADRA database since this may help in the prevention of Thalassaemia in the nation. In addition, he expressed alarm about Pakistan’s growing population, pointing out that 18,984 babies are born there every day. Yet, many parents neglect to register their kids with NADRA or their particular Union Councils, which prevents the state from providing services to its residents.
One in every six girls in Pakistan gets married when still a child, a startling statistic that Malik stressed. He said that in order for the nation to advance economically, there must be a declaration of both an education and a population growth crisis. In addition, he advocated for the registration of a number of underrepresented groups, pointing out how crucial minorities are to win municipal elections.
