TV screens and cell phones are abuzz with pictures of Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Ataullah Tarar waving middle finger of his left hand while holding the Constitution in the right.
The defiance came when he was being evicted from the Punjab Assembly chambers. It is not clear yet to whom this finger was directed? The Speaker or the Constitution.
Tarar is no ordinary man. He is law graduate from University of London. He knows well who to blame for what. Presumably, the finger was for the Constitution.
The Constitution explicitly permits an Advisor to Prime Minister to speak on floor of the National Assembly. The same Constitution, however, is silent on according the similar right of an Advisor to Chief Minister.
In general, we like gaining support from bystanders in a conflict, and neutrality or silent people are often taken as enemies. Maybe, the honorable adviser was angry over the silence of the Constitution in this case. Hence, the finger.
His anger might also be rooted in the reality that the same Constitution which proved to be a catalyst in installing the grandson of Mian Sharif as Chief Minister went silent when it came to the grandson of former President Rafiq Tarar. This is nothing but utter discrimination, division of classes.
Hence, the finger.
