OKARA: Journalist, Member of Provincial Assembly and wife of journalist, and former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, Syeda Maimanat Mohsin aka Jugnu Mohsin survived an attempt on her life in Okara late Sunday.
Reports in local media quoted district police officer said no one was hurt in the attack which happened on Sunday while the celebrated journalist returned from Jhujh Kalan after a public rally.
DPO Okara Faisal Shahzad, while speaking with a private news channel, revealed that unidentified men attacked her convoy when she traveled back from the Jhujh Kalan. The report further added that local law enforcers have apprehended two suspected assailants however the prime suspect who is identified as Yaseen Dhandha is still on the run. Dhandha with at least six other accomplices intercepted the vehicle of Jugno and opened fire.
The FIR further stated that the accused had threatened the former Friday Times editor on social sites for not holding a political gathering at the Jhuj Kalan. The attackers then managed to flee from the scene, while hurling threats at the provincial lawmaker. Reportedly, the attacks occurred around half an hour after she left the venue where the rally was held.
Following the attack, it was revealed that the attack was politically motivated as the attackers were political opponents of Sethi’s.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Amnesty International denounced the incident. Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari also took to her Twitter stating that the attack is absolutely unacceptable and demanded that the perpetrators be arrested.

Earlier on Friday, Mohsin filed a resolution in the Punjab Assembly, against the journalists and rights activists in the South Asian country.
