Most Powerful Passport of 2023 Revealed

A new quarterly analysis by Henley & Partners, a worldwide citizenship and residence consultancy company located in London, found that three Asian passports offer their holders more freedom to travel abroad than those from any other country.

Japan’s residents can visit a record 193 countries without a visa or with one upon request, which is just one more than Singapore and South Korea, whose citizens can freely travel to 192. Asia-Pacific has opened up since Covid, and its people are more inclined to use that freedom to travel once more as a result. Global travel is currently at a level that is about 75% greater than it was before the epidemic, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the most current Henley Passport Index research.

A large number of European nations are positioned toward the top of the leaderboard below the top three Asian nations. Germany and Spain each have 190 destinations, with Finland, Italy, and Luxembourg coming in at 189. Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden are tied for fifth place, followed by France, Ireland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom, which is ranked sixth. Along with Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and New Zealand, the United States and New Zealand appear at position No. 7. Afghan nationals remain at the bottom of the index once more and can enter just 27 nations without needing to apply for a visa beforehand. The Henley & Partner index is just one of many produced by financial companies to rate international passports according to the access they give their citizens.

According to the number of locations their holders can visit without a previous visa, 199 passports are ranked by the Henley Passport Index. All year long, as new visa policy changes are implemented, it is updated in real-time. ROC Taiwan, Macau (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, the Palestinian Territory, and the Vatican are six territories that are included in Arton Capital’s Passport Index. A total of 193 United Nations member nations are also considered. Excluded are areas that have been annexed by other nations. Throughout the year, it is also updated in real time, but its data is acquired by carefully watching the websites of various governments.

As stated by Arton Capital’s founder Armand Arton to CNN in December, it is a platform “for people who travel, to deliver accurate, simple-to-access information for their travel needs.” With a score of 181 for visa-free travel and visa on arrival, the United Arab Emirates is ranked first in Arton’s Global Passport Power Rank 2023. Eleven nations, the majority of them in Europe, compete for second place: Germany, Sweden, Finland, Luxembourg, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and South Korea. Along with Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, Norway, Poland, Ireland, and New Zealand, the US and the UK are ranked third.
