Maryam Nawaz gets ARY’s mic removed before presser

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif removed ARY News’ microphone before speaking at a news conference in Punjab’s capital on Tuesday.

The PML-N leader singled out ARY News once again, removing the news channel’s mic ahead of the press conference and leveling a variety of complaints against it.

This isn’t the first time the PML-N leader has personally criticised ARY News.

After ARY News carried an article about former Sindh governor Imran Ismail’s tweet, Maryam Nawaz openly urged for the channel to be shut down.

The PML-N leader then threatened ARY News and her political challenger Imran Khan in a speech delivered on May 19 in Sargodha.

Journalist organisations and the general public both denounced the move. The management of ARY News sharply opposed Maryam Nawaz’s threats against the channel and stated that the channel will continue to broadcast facts, which is its core responsibility as a news organisation.

However, ARY News management has stated that if any of its journalists or employees are injured as a result of these threats from a national politician, a lawsuit will be filed against Maryam Nawaz.

A number of journalist organisations have also condemned the removal of ARY News’ mic before of a press conference today.

Lala Asad Pathan, Vice President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), remarked that targeting a news channel is unfit for a national leader.

‘Did you see my media management skills?’: another alleged audio clip of Maryam emerges

He went on to say that Maryam Nawaz’s remarks and actions toward a major news channel expose its employees and journalists to attacks from PML-N supporters and workers.
