KP forms fact finding committee to recheck papers of Mardan topper amid public outcry

PESHAWAR – The provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has formed a fact-finding committee to recheck the papers of Qandeel Sohail, an SSC student of the Mardan board, who got full marks which raised a public outcry.

The development came as the orphan student made headlines and also shocked everyone but amid the appraisals, a number of educationists and some media persons called out authorities for the development which also raised questions on the education board.

Shahram Khan Tarakai, the provincial minister for education, later formed an 8-member committee on Wednesday to the copied of students who got full marks in more than one subject.

Other than the Qandeel, who set history in the country’s education system, three other students also scored 1098 out of 1100 which also alarmed the education minister, who directs officials to complete the probe and report.

Narrating his move, the provincial education minister said our government follows merit and therefore, a committee has been formed to recheck.

The development is somehow possible but can be avoided to set a prejudice as the government conducted board exams for elective subjects only in wake of Covid pandemic. In earlier years, many of the students got full marks in science subjects other than Mathematics however English, Urdu, Islamiyat, and Pakistan Studies are the subjects in which no student got full marks.

Meanwhile, Qandeel speaking with a private news channel cited the above-mentioned reasons for achieving the historic feat. Commenting on getting full marks, she said I didn’t expect to get 100 percent marks while adding that many of the students also got full marks in these subjects.

As the government didn’t conduct the exam of the theoretical subjects, so there’s no record about those as well. Also, all of the students were promoted in the ninth grade so that’s also raised the number of giving full marks.
