Kim Kardashian Purchases the Attallah Cross Necklace That Princess Diana Wore

The Attallah Cross worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, was purchased by Kim Kardashian when the pendant was put up for auction at Sotheby’s London.

Diana wore the Attallah Cross pendant, created by the upscale jewelry designer Garrard in the 1920s, on multiple occasions. It sold on Wednesday at the Sotheby’s royal and noble sale for £163,800.

In the final five minutes of the Sotheby’s auction, four bidders reportedly contended for the amethyst cross, which was eventually purchased by a representative for Kardashian, 42, the auction house revealed. The necklace, which Diana most notably wore at a charity dinner in London in October 1987, went for more than twice its pre-auction estimate.

The cross-shaped pendant is an eye-catching and vibrant item set with square-cut amethysts and enhanced with circular-cut diamonds. It is believed to be a one-of-a-kind private custom by Garrard. Approximately 5.25 carats of diamonds make up the entire cross. Head of jewelry at Sotheby’s London Kristian Spofforth stated this about the Attallah cross before its sale: “Jewelry owned or worn by the late Princess Diana very rarely comes on to the market, especially a piece such as the Attallah cross, which is so vibrant, bold, and unusual.” This peculiar pendant, at that specific time in the princess’s life, shows her rising self-assurance in her jewelry and outfit selections.

A Marilyn Monroe dress that Kardashian wore at the Met Gala the year before was one of the vintage fashion items in which she had previously expressed interest. A loan of the “iconic” gown from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum, Kardashian claimed in May 2022 that she had shed 16 pounds to fit into it. When she famously performed “Happy Birthday” to US president John F. Kennedy in 1962, Monroe wore it at the time.
