Karachi: Dacoits targeting online taxi drivers for car-jacking

Dacoits have started using a new method to steal cars in Karachi.

Two suspected dacoits were detained by Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) Karachi officials for allegedly stealing vehicles from locals. They revealed details about their car-stealing methods while being questioned.

A new gang of dacoits has been activated in the city, according to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) AVLC Tariq Nawaz who makes online cab reservations.

The thieves would order rides under the pretense of passengers, then hold the driver at gunpoint hostage while stealing the car. It is important to note that two auto theft incidences involving passengers who stole vehicles after ordering a private online cab service were reported in Karachi this month. The thieves ordered the rides from Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar, then left the area.

The AVLC officer claimed that throughout the course of the investigation to apprehend further gang members, two automobiles and a gun were found on the suspects who had been taken into custody. The criminal history of the detained suspect was also discovered by the police. According to SSP Tariq Nawaz, both accused had been detained following their arrests in connection with robberies.

The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the Karachi police asserted in an incident in March 2022 that three individuals who had allegedly stolen an automobile at gunpoint had been murdered in an encounter. According to the AVLC police, the incident happened in North Karachi close to Power House Chowrangi. The suspects, according to the AVLC, earlier that day stole a white Toyota Corolla off Rashid Minhas Road close to Aladdin Park.

The AVLC police were able to pursue the criminals because of the tracker that was installed in the car. They attempted to flee under cover of fire as the police made an effort to catch up with them. Three of the suspects were dead as a result of the police firing back in response. However, their two companions were able to escape. The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Medical Center.

The dead males were identified as Enayatullah Sami, Ghulam Mustafa Rasool, and Javed Ali Bugti based on the CNICs discovered on them. The individuals slain during the confrontation, according to AVLC spokesman Nasir Mehmood, were white-colored criminals who belonged to the infamous Yasin Bhaiyo gang of automobile thieves. The police continued that earlier, the thugs had stolen two other cars before they stole the vehicle on Rashid Minhas Road. They first took a maroon Toyota Corolla at 7:20 in the Korangi area, then they stole a white Corolla near a private school in Gulshan-e-Iqbal at 10:30, and they stole another white Corolla near Aladdin Park at around 1 in the afternoon, the officer stated.
