Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has designated the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as a Special Vetting Agency (SVA) for the purposes of induction, critical postings/appointments, and promotions of all public office holders (officers’ category).
“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 25 of the Civil Servants Act 1973 (LXXI of 1973), read with Notification No. S.R.O. 120(I)/1998, dated 27th February 1998, the Prime Minister is pleased to notify Directorate General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as Special Vetting Agency (SVA) for verification and screening.
According to the notification released by the Establishment Division on June 2 after approval from Prime Minister.

The postings, as well as nominations to high-ranking positions, would be subject to clearance by the military’s intelligence branch.
Because it has been designated as a special vetting agency, the ISI will screen candidates for senior positions. According to reports, the move comes as the government prepares to make key announcements about high-level bureaucrat appointments.
