Invalid vehicle number plate in Lahore may lead you to prison

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Muntazir Mehdi, has said that instead of fining traffic violators, cases will be filed for tampering with number plates, including the placement of bogus, fake, and illegal number plates.

The owner of a vehicle with altered number plates will be prosecuted by the police and a FIR will be filed under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 97A. Individuals who tamper with number plates face a fine of Rs. 20,000 to 200,000 and a sentence of up to two years in prison, according to the provision. The case will be heard in court, and the final punishment will be determined.

Due to technical problems, many owners who registered their new vehicles in 2021 asked for number plates but have yet to receive them from the Excise Department. If you are one of a waiters, preserve the application slip and show it to the traffic warden to avoid getting in trouble. You can also obtain a regular number plate made privately from the market, but this will be more expensive.

However, we believe it is the Excise Department’s responsibility to deliver the number plates on schedule.

To teach number plate defaulters a lesson, the Excise Department and City Traffic Police have organised joint action squads. The big crackdown was supposed to begin today, but the authorities have extended it for another three days. There will be no warnings or challans issued after January 21st, and there will be only direct FIRs, severe fines, and jail time.

If you don’t have a proper number plate on your automobile or motorcycle, please get one and avoid the penalties. Also, if you know someone who could be fined for not having a valid licence plate on their car, share this information with them.

The CTO warned that the absence of number plates is inexcusable but all vehicles with number plates that follow the official pattern will be exempted.

The City Traffic Police (CTP) of Lahore has repeatedly advised individuals against using extravagant, illegal, or false number plates. However, many people still do not utilise the standard number plate on their cars. The CTP Lahore will begin a crackdown on defaulters on Friday.
