Decision To Visit Pakistan for 2023 Asia cricket Cup to be made by Home Ministry: Indian Sports Minister

Due to its reliance on the government for such decisions, the BCCI is unable to decide on its own whether the Indian team will visit Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup.

Roger Binny, the new board president, made this statement on Thursday. Binny claimed that the federal government will finally decide, even though the BCCI hasn’t yet approached the government about touring Pakistan next year, during a speech at an event organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association in this city.

The choice is not made by BCCI. They need the government’s permission to leave the country. Before teams enter the country or leave it, they must have approval. As soon as the government provides its consent, they proceed. They are unable to make their own decisions. They are compelled to rely on the state. Binny said that they haven’t yet approached them. The Asia Cup will take place in Pakistan in September of the following year, just before the ODI World Cup in India. After BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that the Indian team would like to play the Asia Cup at a neutral site rather than fly to Pakistan the next year, Binny made his comments.

The Indian team will need clearance from the Home Ministry before entering Pakistan, according to Anurag Thakur, the sports minister, who made that statement earlier on Thursday. A “disappointed” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) requested an urgent meeting with the Asian Cricket Council on Wednesday. In response to Shah’s comment, the PCB warned that “such utterances can fracture the Asian and global cricket communities” and have an impact on Pakistan’s World Cup tour to India in 2023.

India hasn’t visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup in the wake of the November 26 Mumbai terror incident, and as a result, the anticipated bilateral series in early 2009 had to be postponed.

However, Pakistan and India haven’t played any bilateral cricket in the last ten years. Pakistan did travel to India in 2012 for a brief white-ball series of six games. The two teams have only competed against one another at various ICC and ACC tournaments.
