Government has NOT announced five holidays for Eid

ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry Monday dismissed the news of the five-day Eid holiday, terming it baseless and fake circular.

A notification doing rounds on different social media platforms stating that the government has announced five public holidays in Pakistan on account of Eidul Fitr. The information ministry Monday trashed the notification and clarified that the government has not announced a five-day Eid holiday for this year.

The tweet shared on the official handle of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for exposing Fake News added that disseminating Fake News is not only unethical and illegal but is also a disservice to the nation. It is the responsibility of everyone to reject irresponsible behavior. It further added that reject #FakeNews.

Earlier, Pakistan’s top monitoring body advised the government to announce Eid holidays from May 10 to May 16 as Pakistan battles the third deadly wave of the novel virus.

The suggestion for the week-long holiday was sent to the Ministry of Interior however the ministry has yet to make a decision and forward its proposal to the cabinet for approval.
