Gold commode worth $6mn still missing as probe stretches over 2 years

WOODSTOCK: The stolen 18-carat toilet, which was made in honor of Sir Winston Churchill, is still missing two years on as British authorities still got no leads on its whereabouts.

Reports in international media cited that the unexplained heist that baffled British law enforcement remains unsolved two years on while experts said the stolen toilet named America was likely sold off after getting melted.

It was September 2019, when the work of art by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan – installed for an exhibition at England’s Blenheim Palace – got stolen from the Blenheim Palace in England. The incident prompted a probe into the incident which is still continued.

Later, officials also put up a reward of £100,000 for the safe return of the stolen toilet however no development was made while no one has been charged in court over the one of its kind of theft.

Some media reports quoting authorities said five of the burglars barged into the stately home in Woodstock through the front gates and drove onto the courtyard in the wee hours of September 14, 2019.

The gang used two stolen cars including a Volkswagen Golf R to execute the crime. Three burglars, got out of the cars leaving two getaway drivers ready to leave. They found the toilet after getting into the building that was installed a couple of days ago for the Maurizio Cattelan exhibition.

The trio ripped out America from the ground which also caused damage to the area including flooding. The accused then loaded the loo into the boot of the hatchback and left the premises before 5 in the morning. The heist was reported shortly afterward and it was closed to visitors for the rest of the day.

Local cops rushed to the spot and started the probe but failed to found the toilet which was made in honor of former British PM Winston Churchill.

From 2019, around seven accused have been apprehended on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to burgle, and handling stolen goods but later released on bail.
