Former President Asif Ali Zardari Hospitalized in Karachi

Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former president, was transported to a private hospital in Karachi after his health deteriorated, sources reported on Tuesday.

They reported that Dr. Asim Hussain’s medical staff was examining the former president. The PPP leader will have an operation tomorrow that has to do with his lungs, the insiders continued.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the local government minister for Sindh, denied on Wednesday that Asif Ali Zardari, the former president and co-chairman of the PPP, was ill, claiming that “he is extremely healthy and would be back to Bilawal House within a couple of days.” On Tuesday night, several TV networks reported that Zardari had been checked into a private hospital in Karachi while undergoing medical testing because of a decline in his health. However, in answer to a query on the PPP leader’s health, Shah claimed Zardari underwent a “medical procedure,” which in his opinion was not an unusual event, during a news conference in Karachi today.

He called the rumors that Zardari’s health was bad “rumors,” stating that “rumors are rumors after all.” Zardari was hospitalized in a private hospital in Karachi in July of last year as a result of “exertion and tiredness” brought on by his frequent travel, according to the party’s information secretary Shazia Atta Marri. Zardari reportedly experienced fatigue and exhaustion due to “traveling for court appearances and the budget session,” according to Marri’s tweet. After some significant political talks, Zardari left Lahore for Islamabad on June 26 and had been in the city for a week.
