A Flydubai aircraft made an emergency landing at Karachi airport shortly after takeoff as a result of bird interaction, according to sources with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Details indicate that Flydubai Boeing 737 flight No. FZ-334 departed Karachi Airport for Dubai but had to make an emergency landing shortly after. The flight’s engine is substantially damaged, according to sources within CAA.
There have been occasional reports of birds colliding with aircraft at national airports, but the issue has not changed despite the CAA’s assurances. In the first eleven months of 2022, birds struck at least 57 Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft.
Details indicate that so far in 2022, PIA has published a report on airplanes struck by birds. 53 bird-hit instances were documented from January to October, and four incidents were registered in November, the report states. The Lahore International Airport was the site of the majority of the occurrences. Five of the 57 PIA aircraft were damaged by bird collisions in 2022, according to the data, while in 59 cases, no significant damage was done to the aircraft. In addition, the birds struck 21 PIA aircraft when they were landing, 12 during the approach, and eight while they were taking off.
Millions of dollars have been lost by the PIA as a result of the occurrences. Separately, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight that was traveling from Sukkur to Islamabad had to make an emergency landing at the airport in Islamabad after receiving a notice that one of its engines was on fire.
The PIA ATR flight, which had 54 passengers on board, was flying from Sukkur to Islamabad when the captain received a warning that one of the aircraft’s engines was on fire, according to a representative for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). 2 nautical miles away from the airport, the pilot made a mayday call. The plane’s pilot successfully executed a runway 2241 landing.
