Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Does Not want To meet Her Family: Foreign Office

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui refused to speak with her family, according to information released by the Foreign Office (FO) on Thursday.

In addition, the FO stated that Ms. Siddiqui was given 300 minutes each month to contact her family, but that she preferred not to use them. It said, “The office has informed her family of her choice.”

The statement claimed that she could not be pressured into initiating contact if she did not choose to. To help Dr. Aafia’s family obtain a visa for the US so they could travel there and see her, the IHC gave the Foreign Ministry instructions to help this happen last summer.

According to the Islamabad High Court on 20th January 2023, Fauzia Siddiqui (Aafia’s sister) should receive legal assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the government has stated that it will not take any action to secure Aafia Siddiqui’s release.

On the plea submitted for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release from US custody, a hearing was held before the Islamabad High Court. Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui and her attorney arrived in front of the court as Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan heard the case. The Additional Attorney General was asked by the court for an update on the case’s status. The representatives had spoken with the temporary US ambassador, Munawar Iqbal Dogul informed the court. It appeared to be just a meeting over coffee and cake, said Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan. I have no idea what transpired at this meeting because it is the seventh or eighth hearing and the government is unwilling to take any action. We also have limitations in terms of the jurisdiction, and we are only able to operate there,” he continued.

According to the AAG, the question of Aafia Siddiqui’s release had been brought up at the diplomatic level. The government appears to be powerless in this situation, according to Fauzia Siddiqui’s attorney.

He continued that they have retained a different attorney in America for Aafia Siddiqui. The court instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist Fauzia Siddiqui with legal matters and mandated that they meet with her the following week.

The government will assist Aafia Siddiqui to the best of its ability because she is one of our citizens, the AAG promised the court. The Islamabad High Court postponed until March 17 the hearing on the plea submitted for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release from US custody.
