Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodrguez, who were expecting twins, announced the death of one of their babies on Monday.
“It is with great grief that we announce the death of our baby child,” Ronaldo and Rodrguez wrote in a joint statement. “It is the most agonising pain that any parent can experience.”
The cause of death is unknown. The Manchester United striker and his model wife, Rodrguez, confirmed that their baby daughter had survived while baby boy passed away.
The couple stated, “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
“You are our angel, our beautiful child. You will always be loved by us.”
Manchester United expressed their condolences to the bereaved footballer: “@Cristiano, your suffering is our suffering. At this time, I’m sending love and strength to you and your family.”
“The Premier League’s thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family, Cristiano,” reads a tweet from the English Premier League.
