Cardi B’s new music video features artwork of Pakistani breastplate designer Misha Japanwala

LONDON: Pakistani artist and designer Misha Japanwala, who earlier featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list, has paved her way for headlines as she created a gold breastplate for Cardi B’s new music video Rumours.

The 25-year-old should now be getting used to making headlines with the American rapper turned actor as this is the second time she worked with her. Earlier in June 2021, Japanwala, who garnered international fame with lifelike breastplate molds, made a mold for the Up crooner for her pregnancy announcement.

This time the artwork of Pakistani achiever makes it to Lizzo’s new single which also featured Cardi B. Three-time Grammy winner Lizzo teased the collaboration when she posted a clip of herself delivering a wake-up call to Cardi.

Japanwala seems all over the moon as she took to her Instagram, where she shared a clip from the new release. “If you need me I’ll be blasting the speakers and shaking my ass to this song for the rest of the weekend. Not sorry to my neighbors”, the excited artist captioned the post as her custom gold breastplate and arm cuff appeared in the clip.

The breastplate donned by Cardi B accentuated her baby bump as she’s expecting her second baby. The New York-based artist while speaking with an American publication told: “I’ve been trying to establish myself in the art and fashion scene for the last few years, but I think my work was noticed by Cardi B’s stylist, and [who] wanted to give more opportunities to South Asian designers like me.”

Narrating the idea behind the art, she said it started with her dreams of sculptures of naked bodies as she was thinking about the female corporeal form. However, she said not everyone is pleased with my work as it draws huge backlash however, she mentioned that getting this kind of reaction only confirms that the work I’m doing and the narrative I’m creating is especially important.

It only shows that people are threatened by women ‘taking charge of their bodies, she opined while mentioning dozens of DMs that she used to get from the moral policing squad.

Earlier in April, she was featured in the prestigious list of Forbes 30 under 30. “Honoured and humbled (and shocked!!!) to be on the @ForbesUnder30 list. Truly never imagined I would say those words”, she said while mentioning her appearance.

Japanwala also garnered a lot of eyes when top model Gigi Hadid sent love to her. Soon after the Vogue Spain issue hit newsstands, she got a new Instagram follower and that was Gigi Hadid. Hadid re-shared her story on her profile along with a white heart emoji. For the unversed, the duo collaborated for ‘Gigi Journal Part II’.
